Hayden McHugh is Ready to Stay Up All Night
Hayden McHugh is an openly queer artist who had been on my radar through most of last year. The moment he had my full attention though is when he dropped his feel good break up anthem Smile a few months ago. To put it bluntly Smile was a bop and it is easily one of the best pop songs to come out in recent memory. The success of Smile raised my expectations for Hayden's followup single. I am happy to report that his latest single Up All Night is another certified bop but one that's aimed more for the clubs than Smile.
Smile was an empowerment bop meant to be sung while driving with the windows down. Up All Night on the other hand is the perfect soundtrack to sexy late night hookups on the dance floor. Musically Up All Night recalls club anthems by acts like Robyn, Zedd and openly queer singer/songwriter Leland.
At the start of Up All Night, Hayden has his eyes set on another man who's charisma is so strong Hayden has no choice but to try and gain his attention as he sings:
"Can You give me what I need?'
Cause I'm not sure if I can bleed no more on the dance floor
I'm obsessed with the way that you move
Now I Got Somethin' to prove.”
Eventually by the end of the song Hayden does manage to catch the other man's attention and affection which ends with Hayden finally singing the title of the song:
"You're holding on and I like it
You say I'm Yours and I won't quit
Let's hit the road 'cause I want it
I might be up all night."
Up All Night is a fun and sexy song that is sure to light up dance floors this year, especially at the gay clubs during pride. With Up All Night, Hayden demonstrates that Smile was no fluke and that he has more up his sleeve for the rest of 2020. I for one cannot wait to hear what he has planned next!
